The recent uncontained engine failure of a southwest airlines 737 which resulted in the sad death of one passenger brought home  just how reliable these engines are, the particular engine that had the temerity to let go, had done more than 37,000 cycles, this in itself may not mean much but if each cycle was say a 2 hour flight then this engine had done in excess of 20 million miles !!!!!!!! just let that sink in for a minute.
Roughly 100 times to the moon and back!!!
